Boat Landings on Upper Clam Lake

Upper Clam boat landing

Upper Clan Lake has one public boat landing located on the west side in the middle of the lake.

Upper Clam boat landing

To get to the lake, you have to back down a very long, skinny gravel road. There is no turn around at the end.

Road to boat landing

You will have to stop on Hwy 77 and back up onto the gravel road. Then continue to back up for 360 feet until you get to the lake. There is no dock and the landing gets a little soft at the end.

Parking spot

There is no designated parking spots either, so anywhere alongside the road seems to work.

Commentary About Upper Clam Lake

Upper Clam in the morning

Upper Clam Lake is beautiful lake to get your boat on. It is a small lake located in northern Wisconsin in the heart of the Chequamegon National Forest.

Clam Lake is the nearest town, and it is surrounded by several other lakes that are similar to Upper Clam. One of my all time favorite lakes is Day Lake, which is just on the north side of the town. This lake is loaded with small muskies. See my lake review of Day Lake Here.

Day Lake Campground

If you would like to fish Lower Clam, or any of the other lakes in the area, the Day Lake campground is an excellent place to stay.

There is not much civilization around these parts, buts that’s why I love it. You will likely be the only one on the lake. In the fall you will see and hear hunters roaming through the woods.

Clam Lake Junction

In the heart of Clam Lake is the Clam Lake Junction. This is your one stop shop for all your needs. You can fill up with gas, get groceries, and fish baits, all in one spot.

Algae bloom

The lake itself is very beautiful, but it did have a large algae bloom that spread across the lake. It seemed to concentrate in certain areas.

Fishing Experience on Upper Clam Lake

Fishing Upper Clam

We have fished Upper Clam a couple of times, but I wanted to give it one last try before giving up on it. The last time we were here, I don’t believe we caught anything, or at least anything worth remembering.

Rock Bass

This time, Reggie caught a rock bass right off the landing. That gave us some hope, but unfortunately we’d have to wait a few hours before getting another bite.

South End

Finally, down on the very south end of the lake, I had a musky follow up my spinnerbait. He came out of the lily pads, but disappeared just as fast.

Shiner

We worked our way back up the western shoreline and kept seeing fish spotting on top of the water. Reggie managed to hook one. It turned out to be a shiner!

Bluegill

I even caught a bluegill, which might be the biggest fish of the day! By now I was getting frustrated and decided all the fish must be out in the deep part of the lake, so I tried that next.

14 feet of water

I put on that shiner Reggie caught earlier and tried out in the middle. The water had a dark stained tint to it. I did see a few bluegills out in the deep on the underwater camera. If you look carefully, you can spot them in the photo above.

We did not catch anything out in the deep either, so it was time to head back to camp and crack open a beer.

There are lots of lakes in the Clam Lake area, so you can always try another lake if this one is not producing for you. I heard from others who said they had some luck catching largemouth bass at dark on Rapalas on Upper Clam.

Lower Clam

Personally, I would skip Upper Clam and head over to Lower Clam. I had a great time there, catching two nice muskies. Check out my Lake Review of Lower Clam Here.
